Samsung SCX 4521 – Printing Made Easy For The Small Home Office

Compact styling and design- The Samsung SCX 4521 printer uses the SCX 4521 cartridge and has great compact styling and design. It weighs a feather light 10 kilograms and boast with compact overall dimensions of 14.5×17x14.7 inches. The smaller the footprint especially in home or small business environment the better. The customers’ or clients’ goal is to invest in a product that can print, scan, fax and copy without taking up all the space of each item individually.

Quality expectations- At a very affordable price of US$250.00 you can expect that there must be something missing or lacking to the machine. Unfortunately the lack is in the form of print quality. Text quality is rather mediocre and only suitable for normal, everyday jobs. If high quality and quantity print jobs are handled, the printer will not be suitable. Quality in terms of graphics and photo printing is also below average with dithering clearly visible on prints.

Paper- All popular paper sizes and types are compatible with the printer for both printing and copying. The printer reach an engine speed of rather slow 20 pages per minute for both print and copy production at 600×600 dpi. Warm-up time is almost non-existing with first print or copy production 11 seconds from standby mode. Always use Samsung SCX 4521 toner.

OS Compatibility- You name the OS and the printer is most likely compatible with it. The printer is really not fussy and will accept Windows 98/ME/NT4.0/2000/XP, Linux and Apple Mac. Designers have struck a good balance between old and new technology.

Noise- Printer noise is most probably the greatest disadvantage to the Samsung SCX 4521 printer. It is easily the noisiest printers on the market. There is no way to fix or reduce the terrible sound, so if you get irritated quickly or if you are planning the use the printer in a low-noise environment, avoid this printer as it will drive you mad.

Port options- The printer comes with the latest as well a bit of outdated technology in terms of connectivity. On the one hand you have USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 compatibility and on the other hand Parallel port option. No cables are included with the printer. Ethernet connectivity is available as an extra if you plan to use the machine in network environment.

Possible problems- Scan quality is terrible with uneven contract areas on the scanned document. The output paper tray has a tendency to spill prints in large quantities. Paper jamming is also a common problem encountered with the printer. Fixing the problem is quick and easy with no need for total dismantling of the printer due to the ease of paper access.

Toner- Samsung SCX 4521 toner is included with your purchase. Replacement with normal toner with approximate capacity of 3000 pages will be required soon as print capacity is extremely limited at 1000 pages. Included with the printer is a wonderful function called One Touch Toner which reduces toner wastage by up to ¼, in turn giving you more prints of up to 750 sheets per cartridge. Printer consumables only consist of a single toner cartridge.
